PORTH Y POST
Porth y Post is a small bay on the western coast of Holy Island in Anglesey, North Wales. The 1:50000 O.S.
map for this area is sheet 114 (Anglesey) and the grid reference for the locality is SH 244796. The BGS map
sheet to refer to for this locality is the Anglesey sheet.
The rocks investigated in the video clip for Porth y Post are dykes of Tertiary age that have been intruded into
tightly folded schists of the Precambrian New Harbour Formation. The gallery illustrates some of the
characteristic features of dykes such as cross-cutting relationships, chilled margins, cooling joints and baked
margins.
